Wicked Dragon on tour – See you at WOMAD & The New Forest Fairy Festival?
We're lucky. The business we run isn't just an ordinary shop, and it isn't just a website. We get out and about. We travel. And we meet our customers and suppliers face to face. This year we have some really cool events to attend, complete with a large stall selling loads of stunning alternative clothing to help things go with a swing. Here are the biggest festivals we'll be attending for 2019. Will you be there? If so, do come and say hello!
See Wicked Dragon at the Womad festival 2019
This year's WOMAD Festival runs from 25th to 28th July, so it's almost upon us... and we're so excited. WOMAD – World of Music, Arts and Dance - has the most wonderful hippy-trippy vibe, founded way back in 1980 by the brilliant Peter Gabriel, Thomas Brooman and Bob Hooton. The first WOMAD festival took place in 1982 at Shepton Mallet. The idea was that people from all over the UK would love discovering amazing music from other cultures around the world, all they needed was a special place to experience it. Gabriel's cool 'global sounds' concept came from an experience he had with a group of African musicians, and he ultimately developed the idea into a big event showcasing music from all over the world. The music business itself shrugged its shoulders and ignored the festival. But the first one presented such awe-inspiring music and dance from every corner of the world, from rock to jazz to folk and back again, that it soon took off and became well respected as the best of its kind. These days WOMAD is bigger than ever, loved by more people than ever. There are WOMAD festivals held all over the world including Australia, New Zealand, Sicily and Spain. WOMAD aims to excite, inform and create awareness about the sheer, fantastic potential of a genuine multicultural society. It's famously safe and family-oriented, and the music is always the star of the show. There's an astonishing variety of remarkable music and dance to discover, all at the lovely Charlton Park in Wiltshire. There are no age restrictions, which means our little daughter is just as excited as we are to be attending. And we've sourced an enormous range of really beautiful alternative clothes for festival-goers to enjoy, as colourful and joyful as the magical music that surrounds us.
Meet Wicked Dragon at the New Forest Fairy Festival
Have you ever been to the New Forest Fairy Festival? It's such a joy, and this year they're even including real mermaids... well, sort of real! As you can imagine our daughter is thrilled to bits at the prospect of being surrounded by beautiful fairies, amazing blue and green mermaids, even a few colourful mer-men, and an enormous mermaid tank for them to swim in. You won't believe your eyes. We're looking forward to showcasing our gorgeous silk pixie dresses as well as colourful harem pants and funky popper wrap skirts in various lengths, all wonderfully bright and vivid. We'll be bringing a load of gorgeous festival shoulder bags with us, perfect for stashing your stuff safely, and of course we have an entire heaven's worth of super festival hats. Many of our alternative clothes have top class Fair Trade credentials, and most are made in Nepal by lovely people who we've met several times over there. What's in store at the Fairy Festival? Magical things, that's what! There are lots of interactive theatre shows, fairy walkabouts and plus songs and stories. Oh, and let's not forget the dazzlingly lovely Unicorn Queen with her singing and storytelling sessions. Plus tea parties, a belly-dancing workshop, wand-making, the Pisky Circus, and the super-cool Fancy Dress Parade. The dates are Saturday 10th to Sunday 11th August, and your venue is Burley Park in Hampshire.
